Data is all around us. Most of it is noise.
Information serves two purposes: to inform and to change minds. Information is useful because it has a point-of-view. It turns data into actionable truth.
It’s not difficult to get more data. It’s the hard part of turning it into information.
The Carbon Almanac was created by 300 volunteers about a year ago. Yesterday we were awarded Book of the year by the Data Literacy Awards.
Some charts and graphs in this book have been through at least thirty iterations. Each one was checked for accuracy, footnoted, and shared with dozens upon dozens of reviewers prior to being included.
Although there are many ways to present data in a variety of formats, very few of them actually turn it into information.
