It’s no surprise that fooling becomes a strategy for scaling businesses.
Beware. Yes. We should be careful about our gullibility.
This overlooks the cultural truth that just because it is a business model does not mean you are entitled to it. It might exploit a legal loophole, but that doesn’t mean it gives someone the right to use people’s time for their own gain.
Buyer beware places the responsibility on the person who is being fooled. We also have the power to distinguish ourselves from those who would profit from fooling us. It is impossible to work for us, but also earn our respect.
Culture is a set of horizontal principles we apply in the service of our community. Walk away if you are a rip-off artist. It’s not a place anyone wants to live in, and it’s certainly not a great place to visit.
Sometimes, we get exactly what we want. Sometimes we get what is possible.
