The majority of things consumers buy are not sold. When we decide that we want something, we go to the store and buy it. People buy cars, wedding venues, and potato chips because they set out to do so.
Marketing is not the same as selling. It is interactive, generous, and personal. Each customer is given individual attention and tension when selling. Selling takes money, time and effort.
Many companies think they have a product that will sell by itself the very first day. It’s not likely.
Selling is important, but we shouldn’t ignore it by pretending that we don’t require it.
