We stop quickly to watch the car crash, the billionaire’s meltdown or the wrestlers pretending they are political leaders. It’s often harder to stop and watch someone build something meaningful.
This year, we’ll likely spend billions of dollar and millions of hours watching the media cover disaster after disaster.
What would happen instead if we just watched Bryan Stevenson or Nazaninash or Jim Killoran construct something? Not just watched but actually helped?
Drama, conflict and emergency are what sell. We get that.
What if our attention was focused on something else? What if we created something better?
It’s easy for us to think that culture is unchangeable, and that we are forced to cater to our audience. In reality, culture is constantly changing. When we change our attention and what we produce, culture will follow.
