Choose your future.

There’s nothing more important than your startup, your project or your job.

Two key elements are:

  1. How do you get new customers to your business?
  2. What makes your customers happy and how much power do they have?

Google’s first few years were a case in point. Salespeople were not needed because customers came to them on their own. The revenue engine was also so powerful, that it could easily replace them. Google was aligned to the customer’s needs.

Imagine a landscaper setting up a business on a tiny island. You’ll have to work hard to convince people to switch because they already have a landscaper. The customers that you do get may want to buy something impossible and will pay as little money as possible. They may even feel empowered to mistreat a vendor.

It is important to create a business that allows you to grow the company you desire. It is exciting to find and serve new customers. To create a tailwind, so that your early success with customers will give you the chance to have more success.

Before you start a new project, it’s important to get some customers. The second step is to see how it feels to disappoint or delight customers.

All successful companies have one thing in common: they all rely on customer traction.

[Unrelated PS: Happy August! Today is the official release date for my page a day calendar. It’s like a daily journal, but printed on paper. It’s the first video-enabled app I know. There is only one batch made, so once it’s sold out, it’s not available again.
