There is a difference between being intelligent and being smart. A plumber is intelligent, because they are able to perform the task in hand with skill and effectiveness. Intellectualism doesn’t have to be about results. It can also be a passion to explore what other people say. This approach is often misused by others to make them feel ignorant or to slow down.
Ask an intellectual if you want to find out what scholars have written.
If you have a difficult problem, it may be worth asking a knowledgeable person for help.
We hesitate to ask for directions if our GPS breaks down. If your computer doesn’t work, yelling at it may be less effective than calling an IT professional.
We may resist the help of someone smart for a few reasons:
It exposes us all to the change and emotions that go with it. We can remain in our comfort zone, without having to make any changes, if we shield ourselves from valuable insight.
It can make us look stupid in comparison. It may be better to accept the problem rather than appear as if you didn’t understand it.
Smart is now more accessible than ever. We need to look for it.
