is a protest? //
Protests are a way to let out steam. Protests are a way to organize people that might otherwise not attend by creating an opportunity for them and applying social pressure.
A protest is a way to send a message.
But nearly every protest fails to achieve much because the same things that make it appealing fail to produce any real change. This is because protests tend to be short-lived, urgent and temporary. Status quos are good at surviving demonstrations. It’s because of this that the status quo is still in place.
Alternative is to start a project. The project starts with a demonstration that ends in “We’ll be back tomorrow and we’re going to bring our friends.”
A project is persistently impatient. It is a game that lasts longer than the status quo.
A project identifies a system and uses a systemic method to change it.
When measured by a stopwatch they can appear boring, but when measured using a calendar they are powerful.
