Hope Now: the power of books to cause //
Non-profits, charities and other non-profit organizations rely on the financial and emotional support of their supporters. This support is always built on a narrative. It is a story of hope, justice and community. They are there to correct wrongs, fix problems, shine a bright light, and make things better.
I have found that a book can be a powerful way to share this story.
This week Afya will launch a book written by my friend Danielle Butin. The book is only available through their website.
Wild Hope now tells the story of a person who recognized a problem but refused to ignore it. It’s her story, how she started in her own backyard and organized one person, ten people, then entire institutions. Afya now saves lives all over the world.
These books, such as Wild Hope now or the ones listed below, humanize these causes. A video can be viral but a book allows you to share your story and make a difference.
The Blue Sweater By Jacqueline Novogratz
Walk in Their Shoes By Jim Ziolkowski
A Manifesto for Moral Revolution by Jacqueline Novogratz
John Wood’s Creating Space to Read
These books and similar books really resonate with my thoughts. As I go through my day, I hear the voices of authors, reminding me that there is no reason to wait for better. It’s possible here and now.
These books are a great way to give three gifts. You will learn something. You learn something. The person who you purchase a copy for also feels respected and seen. The growth of support for a cause is a long-term benefit.
