We can identify patterns in the way people surf the internet, type or interact. We can search through massive amounts of data to find connections others thought were invisible. We can find connections in the way medicine works, our culture, and much more, not just whether we are dreaming.

Systeme work because every element sends signals to other elements. Sometimes these signals are clear and the system behaves in predictable fashion. Sometimes we use false proxy signals because we can’t separate the signal from the noise. This is changing with new diagnostics.

Consumer AI is usually a clever trick to make us believe that the computer can write pretty well. Machine learning that targets patterns and signals can reveal things we didn’t know were there.

We’ve long assumed that complex systems, such as the brain or the weather, are a kind of magic. We can begin to understand the workings of complex systems as we decode their signals.
