– Measuring what matters //

The last in the series…

We were all taught to think that doing chores was the best way to measure productivity.

I did my homework.

For industrial bosses, doing all of your homework is an important measure.

What exactly has your homework done for you?

The range of actual productivity measures that are useful is quite wide:

  • I didn’t do enough to get fired.
  • I was promoted because I performed well enough.
  • I have done enough to be hired by a more reputable firm.
  • I was able to solve a problem that a frustrated customer had.
  • My peers are now more productive because I have changed the system.
  • I created something that opens up new possibilities and problems.
  • I have created new assets I can use and that others can also.
  • Today was not wasted.

Choose your measurement, and your chores’ impact will change.
