Put very simply, an SEO Meta Tag is a piece of information that is sent to a web browser as part of your page, and which a search engine, when it is scanning your site, can read to try to figure out what your site is about. In the early days of the Web, these were extremely useful as an easy place for the search engine to look. But then people came along.

I am sure Google does not regret the day they decided to rank a company called MetaGrate. The MetaGrate people showed Google how to spot supposedly innocent sites that had been taken advantage of.

And that is how today there are literally thousands of ” innocent” sites on the internet that have had their rankings lowered by Google as a result of using improper meta tag optimization.

The major search engines do not rely on Meta Tags. Although Google does not rely on them exclusively, they are still a factor in the equation.

What still means is that if you have a website and want to get it to rank highly, you’ve got to do a number of things.

First, you’ve got to make sure that your site is in some sort of niche. The only way that Google is going to let your site have a good ranking is if your site fits the search criteria for a certain term. When people are searching for information, they aren’t going to just pick a site at random because it might look nice.

You need to have a niche site, so any site that you have that is not strictly a website about tourism in Australia or the history of is not going to do you much good.

Second, you’ve got to make sure that your site is professional. If you’ve just had it created, you’ve got to make sure that it is designed well. It’s got to be professionally designed, with lots of good content on it. The search engines like sites that are clean and simple, and this is mostly the case for websites that have been around for a while.

Third, you’ve got to make sure that the search engines are going to like what they see on your site. This is why you’ve got to make sure that the SEO methods that you are using are all legit. If they are not going to like some of the things that are on your site, then they are not going to rank you very highly.

Getting your site to rank well is a long process and you aren’t going to get there overnight, so you’ve got to be patient. All SEO methods take time to work and getting your site to rank well for competitive terms can take many months, if not years.

Patience is the key when it comes to SEO. All the different SEO methods that you are going to use, you’ve got to make sure that they are all legit. That day when you start making sales will be long and hard. You’ll be making a lot of calls and knocking on a lot of doors to get customers in your business.

You’ll probably find that you can hire someone to help you do your SEO, or you’ll decide that you want to do it on your own. It’s your decision, but lots of people find that when they start to focus on SEO, their sales start to drop off.

A lot of people recommend that you focus on optimizing your site for the search engines and for sales. I think that’s a good idea. You can do that on your own and target a specific niche or if you are an affiliate marketer you can optimize your blog for the search engines.
